Choosing a Dance

What dance should I learn first?

Dance is a language. Learning any language takes time and practice. When getting started with any new dance, we recommend you learn the dance to songs you like. It doesn't matter if you pick West Coast Swing, salsa, bachata, East Coast Swing, country, or everything in between, learn to dance to music you enjoy listening to.

  • If you listen to top 40 from 60's to today, rock & roll, blues, R&B, or hip hop

    Start with West Coast Swing

  • If you listen to Latin music

    Start with salsa or bachata.

  • If you listen to big band or the rat pack (Frank Sinatra)

Start by learning East Coast Swing

  • If you listen to country

Start by learning West Coast Swing or 2-step

West Coast Swing

The "Hip Hop Swing", WC Swing is one of the most fun and versatile dances you could learn. It blends well with almost every music genre.

Ballroom includes beauitful and flowing "smooth" dances like the Waltz and Tango, to the hot and sizzling "Rhythm" dances such as Cha Cha and Rumba.

Latin dances cross languages and cultures, especially with salsa. From Salsa dance clubs to parties, there is Salsa almost every night in Chicago!

The "Ballroom with Boots" as it is often referred to, Country 2-Step is often rounded off with the Waltz, Cha Cha, Night Club Two, and Swing.

What about ballroom?

Ballroom dancing has become one of the most popular forms of dance, and as such, is inclusive of most couple's dance. If you would like to learn any of the ballroom competitive dances, such as Rumba, Tango, Waltz, Foxttrot, or cha cha, we offer the full syllabus of dances from beginning social, all the way to competitive dancing.

About Us

Why Chicago Dance Factory

Learn Dance, Not Just Patterns

There is more to dancing than learning basic steps and patterns. At Chicago Dance Factory, you can learn movement in a way that will positively change the way you move, play sports, and even walk for the rest of your life.

Be Inspired

Not every dance teacher or school is the same. At Chicago Dance Factory, learn from teachers who dance at a level that will give you inspiration by the way they move along with a very clear system they will use to build you into a dancer.

Meet a Whole New Community

As a member, you'll be invited to student functions giving you a chance to meet other students who may become life long friends as well as your "support group". Our first objective is to help you get dancing at a social level and introduce you to the community.

Dance in a Showcase or Competition

If your dream is to dance in a show, that can happen with one of our Student Showcase Events where you can invite who ever you wish to attend. If your dream is to dance in competition, Chicago Dance Factory travels with students to exotic places like Orlando, Nashville, and Las Vegas.

Stay Fit and Build Confidence

Dancing is one of the best ways to exercise and stay physically fit. Studies show that dancers maintain a higher quality of life as they age both in the mind and physically. Becoming proficient on the dance floor will also greatly build your self esteem. Learning to dance can be one of the most powerful self development skills you can acquire.
